How to Set the Correct Date and Time on a Dash Cam
An accurate timestamp is what makes footage credible as evidence. Setting it correctly takes a minute and is worth double-checking after any power loss.
Why it matters
A wrong date or time can undermine otherwise clear footage in a dispute. The timestamp ties the video to a specific moment, so it needs to be right.
Set it manually or by GPS
Cameras with GPS can sync the clock automatically once you set the correct time zone. Without GPS, set the date and time by hand in the menu.
Recheck after power loss
If the camera loses power for a long time, the clock can reset. Verify it after changing the SD card, updating firmware, or a battery disconnect.
