Using Dash Cam Footage in an Insurance Claim
Dash cam footage can strengthen an insurance claim, but only if it is preserved and presented properly. A methodical approach makes it count.
Preserve the original
Keep the unedited original file with its timestamp and GPS data intact. An edited or re-encoded clip is less persuasive and can raise doubts.
Provide context
Include the date, time, location, and a brief account of what happened. GPS-tagged footage that shows speed and position adds credibility.
Follow the insurer’s process
Submit footage through the channel your insurer specifies and keep your own backup. Do not delete anything until the claim is fully resolved.
