G-Sensor Explained: How Dash Cams Detect Impacts
The G-sensor is the feature that makes sure the clip you need survives. Understanding it helps you tune it so it protects the right footage.
What it senses
A G-sensor is an accelerometer that detects sudden changes in motion, such as a collision or hard braking. When triggered, it flags the current clip.
Why it locks footage
A flagged clip is locked so loop recording cannot overwrite it. This means the moments around an impact are preserved automatically, even if you forget to save them.
Tuning sensitivity
Set it too high and rough roads lock endless clips, filling the card; too low and a real impact may not register. Adjust until only genuine events trigger it.
